Option One
Ontario Secondary School Diploma with Official Transcript showing 30 credits
Outside of Canada
- education must be evaluated by WES or ICAS (academic level, showing GPA, course by course)
- English Proficiency Test from IELTS (more than 6.0) or Duolingo (more than 95) – Academic Level
Option Two
Post Secondary Education in Canada Official Transcript
- transcript must show graduation date, final GPA and length of program
Outside of Canada
- education must be evaluated by WES or ICAS (academic level, showing GPA, course by course)
- English Proficiency Test from IELTS (more than 6.0) or Duolingo (more than 95) – Academic Level
Option Three
Mature Students (21+) with no Secondary School Diploma
if you are age 21 or older as of the first day of classes, and do not have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, you may be considered for admission as a mature student. You must meet all specific admission requirements (courses, pre-admission testing, etc.) for the program to which you are applying.
All official transcripts and diplomas must be sent to the college in a sealed and stamped envelope directly from your High School and/or Post Secondary School. An electronic version can be accepted if sent directly from the school.
3.Students Educated Outside Canada
Applicants who have completed either their secondary or post-secondary education in a country other than Canada must submit an assessment report of all qualifications.
This comprehensive assessment report can be obtained:
- The International Credential Assessment Service of Canada (ICAS of Canada)
- World Education Services (WES) Course by course analysis
The individual course description for each post-secondary course taken must be provided in English by a recognized translator and notarized.
*Reports must be completed within a five-year period prior to submission. Any reporting provided over the five-year period will not be accepted.
4. English Language Proficiency
The language of instruction at the Southern Ontario Dental College is English.
All applicants must be proficient in both written and spoken English.
Applicants whose first language is not English must have completed:
- At least two years of full-time academic study in a country where English is the first language OR
- Provide a recognized test of English proficiency
We accept the following English proficiency tests:
- The International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
- Score must be at least 6.0 or above
- Duolingo
- Score must be at least 95 or above
*Tests must be completed within a two-year period prior to submission. Any results provided over the two-year period will not be accepted.
5.Letter of Recommendation
Applicants are required to submit:
- One letter of recommendation on official letterhead
- From an instructor/teacher
- A counselor
- An employer
- An advisor
The letter of recommendation should reflect on the applicant’s suitability to pursue studies and a career in Dental Assisting.
- The letter of recommendation must be placed in a sealed envelope with the author’s signature across the seal to ensure confidentiality.
6.Pre-Admissions Testing
Applicants who meet our admissions requirements will be invited to complete pre-admission testing.

I have more than one Diploma or Transcript, do I meet the admissions requirements?
The minimum requirement to apply to the Dental Hygiene Program is a High School Diploma that includes the four courses listed below with final marks of 70% or higher in either grade 11 or 12, at the college or university level:
- Math
- English
- Chemistry
- Biology
If you also have additional post-secondary education on top of the High School Diploma, you are more than welcome to include those official transcripts with your application form.
My Transcripts are from another country and not Canada, what do I need to provide admissions to be considered?
Any education outside of Canada must be evaluated by one of these two services:
- World Education Services (WES)
- International Credential Assessment Service of Canada (ICAS)
You must contact WES or ICAS directly for instructions on how to submit your official transcripts to them.
Ensure to select Course-by-Course Analysis reporting, this will give us a breakdown of each course you took in your completed program and provide us with your overall Grade Point Average (GPA) score.
The final equivalency reports can be mailed directly to your home, or to Southern Ontario Dental College. Processing time can vary, therefore only completed application packages that include WES or ICAS report will be processed.

I’m a permanent resident, do I still need to provide an English Proficiency Test for admissions?
An English Proficiency Test is required if you do not have two consecutive years in the Canadian educational system and most of your schooling was completed outside of Canada.
We accept the English Proficiency Test from the following two services:
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
- Select the Education Test (Academic)
- Must have an overall score of 6.0
- Duolingo
- Must score over 95
The final reports can be mailed directly to your home or a digital copy can be sent to Southern Ontario Dental College.

What is an Official Transcript, and do I need to get one from my High School or Post-Secondary institution?
You will need to contact your institution and request for an official transcript to be sent to Southern Ontario Dental College when applying to any of our programs. Transcripts must come directly from the institution.
The institution can mail a hard copy in a sealed envelope bearing the signature of the appropriate official at the institution (such as registrar)
OR
The institution can send a digital copy directly from their institution email address by emailing the digital copy to admissions@sodentalcollege.com
Transcripts are official if:
- The original seal of the institute’s envelope is not broken, once broken the transcript is no longer considered official and will not be accepted
- The transcript must bear the institutional seal
- Certified true copies must be stamped and signed by the institution
Transcripts are unofficial if:
- Envelope has been opened by the student
- A photocopy of the original is provided
- Not produced by the institution
- Translated by the student or non-professional translation service
- The official seal of the institution’s envelope is broken, the transcript is no longer considered official
How do I submit my application package and application fee? Can someone else apply on my behalf?
Once your application package is ready to be submitted, please visit the college during business hours Monday – Friday from 8AM – 5PM to drop off in-person.
Application packages can be mailed out to the college directly to the following address:

If someone other than yourself is dropping off your application package, please ensure to provide your contact information so that that Admissions Department can communicate your application status.
The application fee will be collected at the time of application submission.

Do I have to be at the college for the Pre-Admission Testing?
All assessments for the Pre-Admissions Testing are conducted in-person at the college. Please expect to be at the college for up to two hours to complete all the required testing.
Who and what does the recommendation letter need to say?
The recommendation letter needs to be written on a company letterhead from professionals that could reflect on the applicant’s suitability to pursue studies and a career in Dental Assisting. We do not accept family or friends’ recommendation letters.
Professionals such as:
- A former instructor/teacher
- A guidance counsellor
- A former or current employer/supervisor
- An advisor or mentor
The letter must be provided in a sealed envelope with the author’s signature across the seal to ensure confidentiality.
