Course Description: Inflammation is the root of all disease, and the mouth is a doorway to observe the inflammation that exists. As a ND, let’s explore what the mouth says to me, explore the signs and symptoms of multiple nutritional deficiencies, and look at the Chinese medicine “mouth map” in which each tooth represents an area of the body. Connections and patterns… what do they mean? Nature verses nurture – Are we bound to our inherited genetic makeup, or do we have the opportunity to prevent issues and alter our genetic programming? This is the field of “Epigenetics”, and we will explore the idea that our DNA does not have to be our destiny, and that we have the power to change our level of health both positively and negatively – I will show you how. Many hygienists have sat in the patient’s
seat at my office, and patterns exist with their health, in particular weaknesses affecting the digestive and musculoskeletal systems. I will discuss the naturopathic approach to this. Naturopathic medicine is about practicing prevention, and with a greater understanding of what the body is telling us, this is possible. You will leave this lecture with a greater understanding of the mouth from a ND’s perspective, how to further positively influence your dental patients, and feeling like it is time for personal change.
