The SODC Restorative Dental Hygiene program prepares dental hygienists with advanced knowledge and hands-on skills in restorative dental care. The hybrid program combines asynchronous and synchronous online learning with in-person clinical sessions, providing flexibility while maintaining essential hands-on training. Students develop expertise in dental anatomy, restorative materials, tooth morphology, occlusion, esthetics, and restorative techniques, preparing them to integrate restorative services into dental practice and support comprehensive client care.
Program Length
This is a hybrid program with a combination of online and in-person learning:
- There are 2-terms, each term is 11-weeks in length
Program Hours/Schedule
Mandatory Online Orientation during first week of Term 1 and Term 2
Program and exams schedules will be shared one month before the program begins and are subject to change at any time
- Theory courses are online synchronous and self-paced asynchronous, allot approximately 17-20 hours to complete weekly courses.
- Practical is taught in-person at the college.

Complete an 80-hour hands-on practicum in Term 2, where you’ll shadow a dentist or restorative dental hygienist in a clinic of your choice. Gain valuable real-world experience, observe clinical practice firsthand, and build confidence in a professional dental setting

Guideline: Restorative Dental Hygiene
In conjunction with the CDHO Standards of Practice, dental hygienists who are registered with the CDHO in the specialty category and are involved in providing restorations of a permanent nature as per Section 4 of the Dental Hygiene Act, 1991, are required to consider the following according to the dental hygiene process of care model. Restorations of a permanent nature include, but are not limited to, fabrication of provisional restorations and permanent direct restorations, bonding and/or cementing of indirect restorations, and torqueing of implants.
