Ready to Invest in Your Future?

If dental assisting or dental hygiene interests you, take the time to learn about the education, training, professional requirements, and career opportunities available in Ontario.

Your career starts with a decision.

Your future is built through the skills you develop along the way.

What Can You Earn in Dental Assisting?

According to the Government of Canada’s Job Bank, the current median wage for dental assistants in Ontario is approximately $26 per hour. The reported Ontario wage range is approximately $20 to $34 per hour, depending on factors such as experience, location, and employment circumstances.

That means a full-time dental assistant earning the provincial median of $26 per hour would have an approximate gross annual income of $54,000, based on a 40-hour workweek and 52 weeks of employment.

At $34 per hour, the equivalent annualized income would be approximately $70,700.

The important takeaway is that dental assisting can provide an opportunity to build a professional healthcare career while developing skills that can be expanded throughout your working life.

What Can You Earn as a Dental Hygienist?

Dental hygiene represents another professional pathway within oral healthcare.

The Government of Canada’s Job Bank currently reports a median wage of approximately $44 per hour for dental hygienists in Ontario, with a published provincial wage range of approximately $33 to $53.67 per hour.

At $44 per hour, working 40 hours per week for 52 weeks would represent an annualized gross income of approximately $91,500.

At $53.67 per hour, the equivalent annualized income would be approximately $111,600.

These figures are not guarantees of what an individual graduate will earn. Actual income can differ based on hours worked, location, experience, employer, benefits, and other factors.

They do, however, demonstrate the potential earning range associated with an established dental hygiene career in Ontario.
